The difference between pages, posts, and templates

1 min read

If an edit does not appear where you expect, you may be changing the wrong content type. Pages, posts, and templates serve different jobs.

Plain-language definitions #

  • Pages: standing sections such as Home, About, Contact, or Services.
  • Posts: dated articles usually shown in a blog or news feed.
  • Templates: reusable layouts such as headers, footers, or page structures that can control many pages at once.
  • Product pages: in WooCommerce, product content is separate from normal pages and posts.

Why this matters #

A visible header, footer, or section may be controlled by a template rather than the page you opened. Editing the page body will not change that template content.

Steps #

  1. Decide whether the content is a standing page, a blog post, a product, or a shared header/footer area.
  2. Open the matching item in WordPress.
  3. If the content still cannot be found, note the public URL and ask FoxDev which template controls it.

Expected result #

You edit the correct content type, or you can give FoxDev a clear URL when the control lives in a template.
